أزهارٌ مشغولةٌ بنحتٍ بارزٍ عميق: عبّاد شمسٍ، وزهور الأضاليا، وكاساتٌ ممتلئة، مُستخرَجةٌ بالتقويرِ خلفَها حتى يمرّ الضوء وراء البتلات. دراسةٌ في المدى الذي تقطعه كتلةٌ واحدةٌ من الزيزفون تحت المنحت.

في المرسم

لا قوالب ولا اختصارات. زيزفونٌ وبلوطٌ يُشغَلان حتى يصير العِرق نفسه زخرفًا. هذا هو البطء الذي يتطلّبه النحت البارز الباروكي.

العمل بوصفه دراسةً تاريخية

كلُّ عملٍ يبدأ مشروعَ بحثٍ، لا مجرّد طلبٍ يُنفَّذ. وقبل أول ضربة، يكون العمل دراسةً للقطعة: تتبّع نقشٍ إلى عصره ومعلّميه، وفهم كيف كانت تفكّر وتتحرّك يدُ مَن نحتته أولًا، وحملُ حرفةٍ تكاد تندثر إلى عملٍ جديد.

ولهذا السبب يكون أيُّ نحتٍ من هذا المرسم فريدًا: تأويلٌ لطرازٍ تاريخيّ، لا نسخةٌ منقولةٌ عن قالب. يحفظ عِرق الخشب، وخطُّ الورقة، وعمق التقوير أثرَ دراسةٍ وعمل، ولا يوجد عملان متطابقان أبدًا. لا يبيع المرسم سلعةً متسلسلة. بل يسلّم عملًا مكتملًا، محمولًا على معرفة عمرٍ بأكمله ورسمه وحرفته. وكلُّ قطعةٍ تحفظ أيضًا شيئًا من فنٍّ عريقٍ كاد يُنسى.
