העבודה כמחקר היסטורי

כל עבודה מתחילה כמחקר, ולא כהזמנה גרידא. עוד בטרם החיתוך הראשון, העבודה היא לימוד של היצירה: התחקות אחר מוטיב עד לתקופתו ולאמניו, הבנת אופן החשיבה והתנועה של היד שגילפה אותו לראשונה, ונשיאתה של מלאכה ההולכת ונעלמת אל תוך יצירה חדשה.

משום כך גילוף מבית מלאכה זה הוא ייחודי: פירוש של סגנון היסטורי, ולעולם לא העתק שנלקח מתבנית. סיב העץ, קו העלה ועומק החיתוך התחתי נושאים בחובם עקבות של לימוד, ואין שתי יצירות זהות. בית המלאכה אינו מוכר מוצר תוצרת המוני. הוא מוסר יצירה מוגמרת הנושאת בחובה ידע, רישום ומלאכה של חיים שלמים. וכל יצירה שומרת בתוכה גם משהו מאמנות עתיקת יומין שכמעט נשכחה.
